Teens Speak

Teens Speak was a Coalition event featuring members of the YAC.  Topics such as drugs and alcohol, peer and romantic relationships, technology, online image and body image were discussed.

Teens Speak:  "Expanding our view of what success means today"
with an introduction by Dr. Steve Treat of the Council for Relationships

The event was held on January 27, 2013 at Lower Merion High School and was free to members of our community.  The teens spoke about the following topics:

• Drugs and Alcohol •
• Peer and Romantic Relationships • 
• Technology, On-line Image and Body Image •

Teens Speak was presented by the Youth Advisory Council for the Coalition for Youth of Lower Merion and Narberth.  The YAC is made up of students from the following schools:  Baldwin, Agnes Irwin, Haverford, Barrack Academy, Friends' Central, Lower Merion High School, Harriton High School and Shipley.

  • Youth Mental Health First Aid Mon. 30 Mar, 2015 (12:30 pm - 4:30 pm) Community Event This two day, (12:30-5:00 on 3/30; 8:30-1:00 on 3/31) is an 8-hour public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents.

  • Speak Up! at The Haverford School Tue. 7 Apr, 2015 (7:00 pm - 9:30 pm) Partner Speak Up! is a unique and effective educational program that brings together Youth, Educators, and Parents/Guardians to explore and discuss the issues that affect our lives and our communities today.
  • Speak Up! at Lower Merion High School Thu. 16 Apr, 2015 (7:00 pm - 9:30 pm) Partner This educational program focuses on such issues as stress, drugs and alcohol, bullying, depression, suicide, self-image and other relevant topics. Speak Up! provides a foundation for a lifetime of positive communication. 
  • Speak Up! at Radnor Middle Schooll Wed. 22 Apr, 2015 (6:30 pm - 8:30 pm) Partner This is a Middle School Program for 6th, 7th and 8th Graders. What parent isn't concerned about the increasing challenges of keeping students safe, confident, happy, healthy and academically successful?  Speak Up! is a unique and effective educational program that brings together Youth, Educators, and Parents/Guardians to explore and discuss the issues that affect our lives and our communities today such as stress, drugs and alcohol, bullying, depression, suicide, self-image and other relevant topics.   Speak Up! provides a foundation for a lifetime of positive communication.
